Giacometti's Last Model
Oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, 2018
I really like Giacometti's paintings, and, when I was working on this painting, I kept thinking about his linear figures. He did use models, but he was not interested in a likeness. He was more interested in the space the model occupied and the space around them. Giacometti began to see figures and objects as subsumed by the space they inhabit and he wanted to capture this idea. Here I imagined him at work on one of his paintings.
